We’re fairly certain we haven’t heard the last of this Microsoft offer to buy Yahoo! — or Google’s plans to intervene — but it looks like round one has Yahoo! saying “no thanks” to Microsoft’s $44.6 billion buyout offer. Apparently some of the number crunchers inside Yahoo! feel like the number is too low of a valuation, while others want to get tied up with Google to improve search revenues — which some seem to think might have some antitrust implications. Pah, “antitrust implications.” At least Microsoft remembers when men were men, and monopolies were monopolies.

Some researchers at the University of Michigan are clearly misdirected in their goals to harvest energy from a knee brace. The device generates electricity in a method similar to regenerative breaking in a hybrid car, so the attempt is to harvest wasted kinetic energy in your knee from when your leg hits the ground and at other points in your stride. Hopes are to reclaim this energy for use to power gadgetry on your person, or perhaps a prosthetic limb, and the researchers claim it only takes an extra watt of metabolic power for each watt of electricity generated — compared to 6.4 watts of metabolic for a hand-crank, for instance — but we’d say that’s still one watt too many: if we were meant to use our own calories to power devices, why did God make batteries and solar panels?

Best Thing Found: Zenni Optical

At Zenni Optical, you will find very stylish prescription glasses, they have a huge selection of frames with single vision lens, sun-sensor lens, tinted sunglasses lens, bifocal lens and progressive lens available.

Great Discovery: Zenni Optical , there are simple drop-down boxes to choose colors, prescription, and other stuff. I think you have to know something about your prescription to pick out the right type, but otherwise the interface is pretty simple to use. Plus, the form stops you if you make a mistake, so you’re not likely to end up accidentally ordering a pair you can’t use.
Since they sell factory-direct, you will find big discounts, starting by the Zenni Optical $8 Rx Glasses.
The site has a $4.95 flat shipping rate, whether you’re ordering one pair or ten and they even sell internacionally.
Overall, this is a great site, the navigation buttons on the left show all the main categories of glasses, and there’s a search bar below that to help you find a specific look.

For whatever reason, the HP MediaSmart Receiver looked a lot more impressive in the press shots, but hey, maybe it’ll strike someone as cute. Not a lot of extravagance here, but we were able to pop out the HP Pocket Media Drive, for whatever that’s worth. Enough chatter — dig on in below.
